Nkonzi Bush Camp
Located inside South Luangwa National Park in an exclusive wilderness area
Deep in the heart of South Luangwa National Park, Nkonzi Camp is a unique tented camp offering a remarkable safari experience. Nkonzi is small and intimate, a place where every guest receives personalised attention.
Our safari tents evoke old-world safari charm and have all the comforts that you need. And Nkonzi is truly off the beaten track. Here we have only the wildlife for company, and at night time, the Milky Way stretching endlessly across the sky.
Nkonzi Camp - Location
Experience the romance of a safari under canvas
Nkonzi Camp is a tented camp set among grassy plains and ancient forests. To the north, the Luwi River attracts a vast array of wildlife throughout the year. This is one of least-visited but most rewarding game viewing areas in the South Luangwa National Park.
With zero light pollution and panoramic views of the Milky Way, Nkonzi Camp is perfectly positioned for stargazing too.
As remote and unspoiled as Nkonzi is, it’s still easily accessible. The South Luangwa main gate is a 45-minute drive south, and Mfuwe International Airport is approximately 1.5 hours by road.
Our walking safaris often begin and end at camp, while our game drives can head north, south, east or west into untouched wildlife habitats.
We are lucky to be able to visit some very remote areas of the South Luangwa National Park on our all-day expeditions. These are areas of totally unspoiled wilderness that few people ever reach where we have only Zambia’s incredible animal and bird life for company.
For guests traveling by road, our small office near the park entrance offers secure parking for the duration of your stay.
Nkonzi Camp - Accommodation
The perfect blend of back to nature charm and serious safari comfort
Each walk-in safari tent has an open-air ensuite bathroom with hot water bucket showers and flushing loo. Inside are wooden-framed beds with crisp cotton linen, solar powered lights, a small charging station and a fan.
At the centre of camp stands our atmospheric Swahili Meru tent. Home to comfy sofas, our candle-lit dining area and a small bush-bar, this is the perfect place to relax and soak in the safari experience.
With a maximum of eight guests at any one time, Nkonzi never feels overcrowded. You will always receive the personalised safari holiday experience that we’re famous for.
Our meals are created on site by our wonderful team in the bush kitchen. We are proud to use locally grown, fresh produce wherever we can. We also cater for a variety of dietary requirements.
Nkonzi Camp - Opening and availability
Nkonzi is a seasonal bush camp, open from 1st June to 31st October.
This is Zambia’s dry season, when wildlife congregates around the rivers and watering holes making for fantastic game viewing.
During the rainy season months (November to April), Nkonzi Camp is inaccessible. So at the beginning of November we pack everything up and we leave the area to the animals. How’s that for a small carbon footprint?!
Good to know…
Being so deep inside the National Park means we are not connected to mains electricity. We rely on solar powered lamps and candles and we have a small solar charging unit for camera batteries and phones. However we would recommend that you don’t bring equipment that needs extensive recharging to avoid disappointment.
There is no mobile phone signal in camp or internet connectivity.
We have a permanent on-site management team. You can join us for a great-value safari package, or just a single night;
please see our Rates page for prices.
We hope you love Nkonzi Camp as much as we do and we can’t wait to welcome you on safari with us!
